This year’s congress of the Serbian Society of Radiologists will be held on Thursday and Friday, October 17-18, 2024, in Hotel M in Belgrade.
The day before the congress, on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, an ESOR from the MSK area will be held in the M hotel.
WHY BELGRADE
Located at the confluence of the Sava and the Danube, Belgrade is one of the oldest cities in Europe and, next to Athens, the largest urban area in the Balkans. The oldest archaeological finds from its area date back to the fifth millennium BC. Members of the Celtic tribe founded Singidunum in the 3rd century BC, while the first mention of Belgrade dates back to 878. During its long and stormy history, Belgrade was conquered by 40 armies, and it was raised from the ashes 38 times. Although Belgrade is an old city, it is also modern with many cultural and artistic events, abundant nightlife, as well as many places that should be visited such as Kalemegdan with landmarks such as the fortress with the famous “Pobednik” monument, Sahat and Nebojšina tower, Roman well etc. There is the bohemian quarter – Skadarlija, where you can eat well and enjoy the view in a relaxed atmosphere, and Knez Mihailova is a great place for walking and shopping.
Belgrade is the capital of Serbia with about 1.7 million inhabitants. It has first-class traffic importance, as an important road and railway hub, as well as an international river and air port and a telecommunications center. It covers 3.6% of the territory of Serbia, and 15.8% of the population of Serbia lives there and 31.2% of all employees in Serbia work.
Belgrade is the capital of Serbian culture, education and science. It has the largest concentration of institutions in the field of science and art of national importance. There is the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the Serbian Royal Academy, the National Library of Serbia, the National Museum, and the National Theater. Belgrade is also the seat of Belgrade University, founded way back in 1808.
Belgrade has the status of a special territorial unit in Serbia, which has its own autonomous city administration. Its territory is divided into 17 municipalities, which have their own local authorities.
Culture and science
Belgrade has a large number of nationally important artistic and scientific institutions: the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (founded in 1886), the National Library of Serbia (1832), the National Museum of Serbia (1844), the National Theater (1869), and the University of Belgrade (1905; as Grandeecole 1808). The most famous museums in Belgrade are: Historical Museum of Serbia, Ethnographic Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Nikola Tesla Museum, Vuk and Dositej Museum, Museum of Yugoslavia, Military Museum.
Language
The official language is Serbian. The official scripts are Cyrillic and Latin. Many people in Serbia, especially the staff and congress participants, speak English fluently. There will be no simultaneous translation at the congress.
Currency
The official currency in the country is the Serbian dinar (RSD). Foreign currencies can be exchanged at exchange offices and banks.
Time zone
Belgrade and Serbia are in the CET (Central European Time) zone – UTC+1.
In the summer, Daylight Saving Time (DST) moves it to CEST – UTC+2.
Climate and weather
Belgrade has a moderately continental climate, with four seasons and evenly distributed rainfall.
Working hours
Most shops and grocery stores are usually open from 8 am to 9 or 10 pm, but there are others that are open 24 hours. Large shopping centers are open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and weekends.
Banks and offices have standard working hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Most of them have automated teller machines (ATMs).

Minibuses are available for departure and return to Belgrade Airport from Slavija Square. All vehicles are fully equipped and modern. There are also several regular public transport lines.
Highways
Belgrade is located along the pan-European corridors VII and Ks. E70 directly connects the city with Slovenia and Croatia, as well as Romania and Bulgaria. E75 connects Belgrade with Hungary, as well as with North Macedonia and Greece.
Railway
Belgrade is directly connected by an international railway line to Bar (Montenegro) via Podgorica (Montenegro) and Ljubljana (Slovenia) via Zagreb (Croatia). Due to the reconstruction, the timetable should be checked regularly.

A PC video projector is installed in the presentation rooms. No double screenings will be possible. Presentations on CD or USB should be delivered to the technical staff located in each room two hours before the session.
Presentation from a personal computer is not allowed. The location of the VIP room for lecturers is specially marked.

OFFICIAL LANGUAGE
Presentations by domestic and international experts and industry symposia will be in Serbian and English, without simultaneous translation.
